The Korean Culture Classes give more opportunities for people to enjoy Korean Culture. The classes cover Korean Calligraphy, Korean Traditional Percussion, and Korean Cuisine.

'Seoye' Korean Calligraphy

Korean Calligraphy is an artistic tradition of writing in Hanguel, the Korean alphabet.

Course Details

Calligraphy is an art that is defined by a drop of ink at the end of the brush. It does not accept even the slightest hesitation from the inked brush. This is why the calligraphy Practitioner must know how to concentrate, manage one’s mood and control one’s own emotion. Lack of concentration leads to mistakes. This is why Koreans usually say that they can learn self-control and concentration through calligraphy. The course will also provide knowledge of the Korean language through the practice of writing the 24 basic Korean characters (10 consonants and 14 vowels).

Teacher: Jounghee Kim

The Life of the artist Jeounghee Kim has developed in two main areas: calligraphy and Plastic art. The four years of professional practice of calligraphy under the guidance of calligrapher Yoon Gil-sun brought him the second prize of calligraphy completion in his youth. Today the artist extends his artistic field by being a visual artist and calligrapher. His 100 exhibitions presented all over the world prove his ability as an artist.

'Janggu' Korean Traditional Percussion

Learn the most popular Korean Percussion instrument: the Janggu. Participants are able to learn and feel the exciting rhythms and melodies of the Korean Musical Tradition.

Course Details

In this session, we will cover the historical provenance, materials, playing techniques, and unique sounds of Janggu(Korean Traditional Drum)

Teacher: Basile Peuvion

After giving a jazz concert at the “Yeosu Expo 2012” in Korea, Basile Peuvion became deeply passionate about Korean traditional music. He then learned the Janggu and the Pansori with Korean masters and took part in several international contests. In 2017, he settled down for a year in Korea and performed with a variety of jazz, contemporary, and Korean traditional ensembles. In 2019, he was awarded honorary Dongducheon citizenship by the mayor of the city.

'Hanji gong-ye' Korean Paper Art

Hanji, Traditional Korean Paper, has been the single most important material to produce decorations and household items in Korea for a long time.

Course Details

We are going to make small tools that can be used in everyday life. We will make skeletons out of thick paper and paste colored paper. Even beginners can easily follow along with the instructions. If you learn the basics of Hanji, you will make crafts with your own design.

Teacher: Yunhee Yang

Yunhee yang is an artistic animator, who had devoted herself to illustration for four years at the ESA Saint-Luc Brussels and has studied at the Centre de Formation d’Animateurs-CFA. Since 2015, she has delivered Hanji Gongye classes at The Korean Cultural Center in Belgium.

'Hansik' K-Cuisine (Korean Vegan Food/Korean Traditional Liquor/Korean Traditional Wine)

Hansik refers to traditional Korean food, centered on rice, served alongside a bowl of soup and a variety of side dishes

Course Details

Korean Cuisine has many dishes that are vegan–friendly or easily adaptable for a Vegan diet. We will introduce Korean Vegan Food methods focused on the future of sustainable eating practices.

In addition, KCC Belgium is delighted to introduce the Korean Rice Wine class. During the class, you will be able to taste traditional rice wine, learn about the brewing process, and make your own rice wine!

Teachers

1) Yoon Jeong Choi

Yoon Jeong Choi has been around the culinary industry since a very young age. She attended and received a degree in Hotel Tourism School Spermalie Gent. In addition, She also delivers Korean Cuisine workshops at Korean Embassy and Korean Cultural Center in Belgium.

2) Yun Lee

Yun Lee was born in South Korea and studied in South Korea, the USA, and Belgium. She is the owner of “Yun’s Kitchen” in Meise where she has given Korean Cooking workshops and Korean food catering services since 2016. She is also a Korean cooking instructor at King Sejong Institute Brussels. She completed cooking courses at a professional cooking school in Gent, Belgium in 2013 and finished the Korean Royal Cuisine course and the Korean Royal dessert course in Seoul, Korea in 2019.

3) Tae Yeol Kim

Tae Yeol Kim is a traditional alcohol Ambassador and was an international Korean Cup Championship 2015 Winner Bartender.
